Class at Hatchspace, Brattleboro, VT

Learn. This two-weekend intensive sculpted stool class is for any experience level. We will cover all aspects of making a finished stool including: rough stock preparation, joinery (do's & don'ts),concepts of rake/splay and resultant angles, turning legs & undercarriage stratchers, sculpting, assembly, glue-up, and finishing techniques. Stool seats can even be customized for size. This class can be the pre-cursor to a longer class, building a high-back dining room chair, to run at HatchSpace in Spring 2024. 

Make. Students will make a customized sculpted stool.

Saturdays and Sundays; March 2, 3, 9 and 10  |  9am - 5pm  |

After graduating from Maine Maritime Academy (82) with an engineering degree, Pat Moriarty worked in the power generation business specializing in operation and maintenance of large hydro-electric machinery for thirty years. Although an avid amateur woodworker throughout his adult life it was not until retirement that he became interested in the challenges of sculpted furniture. Pat’s pursuit for perfection stems from his life long practice in traditional Okinawan Karate. Pat holds a 5th degree black belt in Matsubayashi Ryu. When not woodworking or refurbishing vintage machinery Pat enjoys spending outdoor time with his wife Donna and their Belgian Malinois puppy Ajinsan.
